Botulinum Toxin for Lines and Wrinkles (eg. Botox® & Azzalure)
As we get older, our skin needs to be able to withstand the effects of aging, sun damage and toxins. Our aim is to reverse those tell tale signs of ageing and to keep you looking young and natural. Botox ® Azzalure, Dysport and Xeomin are all trade names and all contain the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is a highly purified protein extracted from a bacterium. It has been used for over 25 years to help soften forehead wrinkles and frown lines (Review article, Dessy et al Am J Clinical Dermatology. 2011 Dec 1;12(6):377-88). The toxin is injected in tiny amounts into specific facial muscles. It blocks the nerve transmission, weakening or preventing the action of that particular muscle and thereby softening the lines and wrinkles seen on the overlying skin. |
|
The effects of the toxin last up to 6 months. The body naturally clears all of the injected protein over time and the activity of the treated muscle recovers. If you decide not to repeat your treatment, any lines or wrinkles will gradually re-appear as before.
We use the finest needles to ensure this treatment is rarely painful. A topical anesthetic can also be applied to numb the area prior to injection if needed, however, this is rarely needed. There is really no 'down time'. There may be mild redness which quickly subsides and bruising is uncommon. This means treatments can be undertaken at your convenience, often during lunch time, allowing you to continue with your daily activities as normal straight after a treatment. 'Baby Botox ®' is a term often associated with very small amounts of toxin injected into specifically targeted muscles. This allows you to achieve a fresh and natural result whereby, the main lines and wrinkles are treated whilst still maintaining facial expression. |
Note, some of these areas are treated 'off-licence' please follow this link for the MRHA guidance for the off-licence use of botulinum toxin:
