Micro-Medical Skin Needling Using Dermal Roller™
Micro-Medical Skin Needling using the Dermal Roller™ is a very popular beauty treatment. The Dermal Roller™ can be used to significantly improve the appearance of facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles, sun damaged and ageing skin, uneven skin tone, acne scars and stretch marks. The roller consists of tiny microneedles which create tiny micro channels in the skin dermis. These channels seal within hours of the treatment. However, they provide a gentle stimulus for the skin to rejuvenate and encourage new collagen and elastin production in the skin leaving it smoother and younger looking. The results are similar to laser treatment, chemical peels and dermabrasion but it is considerably less invasive. The use of microneedle rollers for enhancing cosmesis of the face through collagen inductation and enhanced penetration of topical cosmeceuticals is well described: Fernandes D. et al. Minimally invasive percutaneous collagen induction. Oral Maxillofac Surg Clin North Am; 2005; 17:51-63. |

What will a treatment involve?
The skin will initially be treated with an anesthetic cream to numb the area ensuring a painless experience. The Dermal Roller™ treatment will then be applied, a process lasting about 45 minutes depending upon the treatment area. For the first hour after the treatment the ability of the skin to absorb any creams applied is increased 3000 fold. Therefore, the treatment can be augmented by adding vitamins, hyaluronic or collagen preparations. Following the treatment you will need to apply a professional moisturiser and a UVA/UVB SPF 30+ sunscreen for at least 2 weeks. Immediately after the treatment, your skin will look red and almost sun burnt. However, this will subside substantially over the next few hours and be totally resolved by 48 hours. Over the next few days you may experience some skin flaking which is normal and will also subside. As skin takes time to regenerate it will take up to 6 weeks to see visible effects. The process will continue over the following months, particularly with repeated treatments. providing you with a natural and enduring improvement in skin tone. For skin rejuvenation, you will be recommended to have 2-3 repeat procedures about 6 weeks apart. Treatment of acne scars and stretch marks may require up to 5 procedures. |
